At age 92, of Westwood, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, with his loving wife Claire of 66 years by his side. Carmen was the son of the late William & Marietta Gigante, loving and dedicated father of Gina Himel, Paul, Wayne (and the late Cindy), Kathy (Jim) DeFrances, Carmen, Maria (Randy) Brumbaugh; cherished grandchildren Evan, Erik, James, Caitlin (Nick), Gina (T.J.). Christian (Amanda), Lindsey (Tyler), Brandon, Luke, Kevin & Brett, and one great granddaughter Annabella. Also survived by his brother Otto and sister Anita. Carmen was born and raised on Larimer Avenue and he was very proud of this Italian Heritage. He was a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Green Tree American Legion. He was a retired Pittsburgh City Police Officer and a member of the FOP #1. He was also a member of the Crafton-Ingram Guyasuta Lodge 513 F&AM. Carmen was an extremely hard worker all his life. He was an amazing storyteller, great cook, avid reader, and he loved all music especially Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. He loved watching sports, the History Channel and going to the movies and the casino. Lastly, Carmen loved traveling to Arizona for years with his best friends Paul and Joyce. Carmen lived a full life and will be missed dearly. Relatives and Friends will be received Tuesday, September 21, 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the SCHEPNER MCDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton, PA 15205. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 22 at 9:00 AM at The Parish of Saint Raphael the Archangel, St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 310 Mansfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Interment to follow in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full Military Honors.
