Dolores L. Hirschfeld

Dolores Loraine (Flannery) Hirschfeld, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the age of 93.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Hirschfeld; parents Patrick and Gertrude Flannery; siblings Richard, Patrick, William Flannery, Mary Snyder, Gertrude Bogdan , and Nell Venskunas.  Throughout her life, Dolores shared her skills in art and design through various crafts and hobbies.  Known for delicious and elaborate baking skills, she was one of the city’s most sought-after wedding and theme cake bakers.  Her faith was a central part of her life and community.  Ever an active presence in her parish, she participated in the St. James Variety shows, served as an usher at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, and provided handcrafted rosaries to fellow parishioners.  A long-time resident of the West End, Dolores was a member and volunteer in civic and religious organizations, including Pittsburgh Firefighter’s Ladies Auxiliary and Christian Mothers.  Along with her husband “Bob” operated Bob’s Grocery Store for nearly 15 years on Herschel Street near West End Park.  Together, Bob and Dolores enjoyed traveling and cruises, as well as 20 years as “snowbirds” living a fun-filled life in Ocala, Florida.  Dolores is survived and remembered dearly by her children Jerry (Leyla) Hirschfeld, Danny (Kristine) Hirschfeld, and Trudy (Gene) Baumgarten.  Proud grandmother of six grandsons, Mark R. Hirschfeld (Dr. Hilary Michel), Ross W. Hirschfeld (Jill Denk), Eric T. Hirschfeld, Robert “Rob” Baumgarten, Thomas “Tommy” Baumgarten, and Patrick Hirschfeld; beloved sister of Laverne “Vernie” Wayhart.  Cherished aunt by many nieces and nephews.  The family would like to thank long time caregiver Jackie McCoy for the love and care she gave Dolores.  Relatives and friends received Monday 5-8 PM and Tuesday 3-8 PM at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton.  Funeral prayer Wednesday 9 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in The Parish of St. Raphael the Archangel, St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 310 Mansfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Dolores memory may be made to the Pittsburgh Veteran Firefighters Association, 154 Browns Hill Road, Valencia, PA 16059-3106.
