Fred M. Welsh

Age 74 of Crafton, formerly Penn Hills, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 24, 2021.  Preceded in death by parents John and Irene (Burkhart) Welsh, brother of Becky Torbin, Paul "Pete" and John Welsh, uncle of Becky Colins, Paul, Brian, Danny, and Andy Welsh, as well as his three Dachshunds , Harley, Jessie, and Teddy which he considered to be his children.  He was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by Spike and Honey-E-Bear.  After graduation from Penn Hills High School, Fred joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War serving as a Medical Corpsman with the 3rd. Marine Division, after which he worked at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, where he received many commendations for his work.  After the service Fred went to Duquesne University graduating with honors and then was a former employee at Mercy Hospital, working in the Medical Records Department where he met his beloved and almost married Gladi Carlen, whom he shared his life with for many decades.  Arrangements by Schepner-McDermott Funeral Home Inc. 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton, PA 15205.  Family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life Memorial, to be announced at a later date. Inurnment will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA  with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Fred's name to the Humane Society, 6926 Hamilton Ave , Pittsburgh, PA 15208.
