James P. "Irish" O'Brien

James P. “Irish”  O’Brien, died February 3, 2023 at the age of 94 surrounded by his family. Born on September 6, 1928, he married Margaret (Thurston) O’Brien in 1950 and she was the love of his life for nearly 73 years. Together, they had seven children: James/Tyke (Darlene), John (Terri), Joe (Marilyn Mangus), Jeff (Judy Burke), Lorraine (Jim) McMullen and Linda Topoleski; 10 grandchildren: Kristy (Frank) Folino, Katie (Reyers), Kevin (Allie), Philip (Kelly), Michael (Stephanie), Lauren (Nick), Erin (Brian), Mark, Kristen (A.J.), and four great-grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, Hazel and Elsie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, Thomas and Catherine O’Brien, his infant son, Jay, his granddaughter, Allison McMullen and his daughter-in-law, Lindy O’Brien. He was one of six children and has one living brother, Thomas O’Brien.

After retiring in 1993, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also spent many years volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society delivering food to people, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank packing food boxes, and as an altar server at St. Philip Church.

Relatives and friends received Sunday 3-7 PM at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton.  Funeral prayer Monday 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Philip Catholic Church, 50 W. Crafton Blvd, Crafton
