Mary Flynn Obituary

Mary Wallace Flynn, a cherished resident of Crafton, PA, born on September 12, 1934, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2024 at the age of 89.  She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, James Flynn. Mary's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love and family lives on through her 11 children.

Mary is survived by her beloved children: Bernie (Robin Thompson), James (Mary Platek), Kelli Flynn, Tracy Goodwin (the late Charles), Maureen Waldron (John), Kristie Flynn, Cassie Boyle (James)(the late Ken Butya), Jan Dulaney (Chuck), Michael Flynn (Chloe), Lori Coulter (Chaz), and Colleen Anthony (Phil). Her profound love and guidance extended to 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary faced the loss of her grandson, Devon Dulaney, with courage and grace. His memory will forever be held close to the hearts of the family.

 Mary Flynn, 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force, earned her BOC from Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Her dedication to education and personal growth reflected her commitment to lifelong learning. She began her career as a nurse at Allegheny General Hospital. Later, she returned to college at Point Park University, earning a business degree that led her to work at Allegheny Valley School in Ingram, PA. Mary's commitment to care and compassion extended beyond her family to the broader community.

 A farewell to Mary will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton 15205. Funeral prayer Monday at 9:45 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Philip Catholic Church, 50 W. Crafton Ave., Crafton. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors. 

The Flynn family requests the support and presence of friends and well-wishers during this time of remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Mary's memory to be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, St. Philip Parish, 114 Berry Street., Pittsburgh, PA 15205.

As we say our goodbyes, let us celebrate the life of Mary  Flynn, a woman who touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark of love, kindness, and service. May she rest in eternal peace.
