Maureen E. McDonough

Maureen E, McDonough, age 61, of Crafton Heights, peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from complications of COVID-19.  Beloved daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Schepner) McDonough; sister of Kathy “Micki” McDonough, Ed (Sylvia) McDonough, Bill (Diane) McDonough and Nancy (Paul) Heidenreich; loving aunt of Ashley (Brandon) Bogdon, Brittany McDonough, Tim (Ashley) McDonough, Kelsey (Sean) Schreiber, Dana Heidenreich and Troy (fiancee’ Lauren) Heidenreich; also survived by 7 great-nieces and great-nephews. Maureen came into this world to offer her unconditional love to everyone she met. While some might think people with Down’s syndrome have deficits and obstacles that prevent truly engaging in the world - not so with Maureen.  Maureen could read and write, she put in some good years working at Goodwill Industries, and at sheltered workshops. But, most importantly, she engaged with everyone without judgment, offering her heart and a big smile.  Ask anyone on the receiving end of her “I like you!” what that felt like.  Maureen also had a talent for remembering at least a few verses of any song she ever heard and could belt out the entire Sinatra version of “I Did It My Way.”  Each of her siblings will vouch that Maureen is the reason for their good, positive attributes…and not just them. Nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, neighbors, acquaintances, roommates – Maureen’s genuineness and kindness rubbed off on everyone.  Yes, the world will miss this unique, special gem of a person who did it her way.  Relatives and friends received Friday 1-3 PM & 5-7 PM (EVERYONE PLEASE WEAR MASK) at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton.  Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10 AM in St. Philip Catholic Church, 50 W. Crafton Avenue.  Interment will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where she will be joining her parents.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Merakey Allegheny Valley School, 1806 Pine Hollow Road, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.
