Thomas Knight, Jr. Obituary

In loving memory of Thomas J. Knight, Age 91, of Kennedy Township, fondly known as Tom, peacefully departed on Friday January 12, 2024, surrounded by his four beloved children Michael (Laura) Knight, Linda (Jeff) Klink, Karen Elko, Thomas “T.J.” (Becky) Knight and with cherished memories of his departed wife of 66 years the late Hazel (Arnold) Knight.  As a distinguished veteran, Tom proudly  served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, achieving the esteemed rank of Senior Master Sargeant (E-8), and honored with the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam, as well as three Air Commendations Medals.  He was stationed overseas in Holland, England, and in the USA in Texas, Tennessee, and New York.  After military retirement, he ventured into real estate, and next into title insurance at Midland Title Company under “Uncle George”, then following in his footsteps to become President.

Beyond his military and professional accomplishments, Tom was a dedicated pillar in the community, actively contributing to the Rotary Club for over 50 years, including Crafton-Ingram Club President three times.  He and Hazel were major donors to the Rotary Foundation, hosted exchange students, served as District Vocational Service Chairman among other district positions and committees throughout the years.  His favorite projects included the annual Rib Fest, Dictionary Projects for children, and the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and of course leading the Egg Toss (and his creative trophies) at the annual picnic.  His unwavering faithful commitment extended to Ascension Church (St Philip Catholic Parish) for more than five decades where he was cherished as a Eucharistic Minister and active volunteer:  especially of note making the Haluski at Ascension’s Fish Fry that will never be the same.

Tom had a love of life to the end filled with joy and laughter.  He loved golf, gardening, flowers, good jokes, birdwatching, dressing up for Halloween, ice skating, Pirates/Steelers, and most of all his family.  He was a pro on the dance floor, and everyone stood in line to dance polkas with him at weddings.  He loved to have fun and rode the Alpine slide at Seven Springs at 80 years of age and played Twister at 82 years of age.

Tom leaves behind a legacy in the hearts of his grandchildren David Klink, Jennifer Knight (her late husband Robert Heffernan), Claire Elko, Jared Elko, and Charlotte Knight.  Tom is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, fellow parishioners, neighbors, and his Rotary Family, as well as Hazel’s Family in England including David (Janet) Arnold and family, and Eileen Maple.  He joins his beloved departed siblings Rita (Tom) Cannon, Ed (Vera) Knight, Sue (Jim) Truschel, Alice (George) Boehm, Patrick Knight, Clara (Ben) Marchione, and leaves behind his dear sister-in-law Bobbie.  May his memory endure as a radiant beacon of strength, service, and love.
